Kat's aversion to dating prompts the father to come up with a new rule: Bianca can only date if Kat is dating. Bianca begs her father to allow her to date, but to no avail. Kat distracts her father by revealing that Bianca was given a ride home from school by Joey Donner (Andrew Keegan). Her protective father, Walter (Larry Miller), is distraught by the news, as he wants Kat to attend college nearby. At the Stratford residence, Biancas outcast older sister Kat (Julia Stiles) receives a letter of acceptance to Sarah Lawrence College. Michael does, however, inform Cameron that Bianca is looking for a French tutor. Michael warns that Bianca is shallow, conceited, and worst of all, not allowed to date. During the tour, Cameron spots the beautiful and popular Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik) and is immediately smitten with her. Michael provides Cameron with information on the schools various cliques. Will Patrick win Kat's heart? Will Cameron win Bianca's? Or will everything hit the fan.? - Erica BaffaĬameron James (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), the new kid at Padua High School, is given a tour of the school by Michael Eckman (David Krumholtz), who is an audio-visual geek and former leader of a clique of future MBAs. His choice: Patrick Verona, a bad-boy with a mysterious reputation-some say he ate a live duck once, others that he lit a state trooper on fire, and even more claim that he had a brief porn career. So Michael helps him enlist the help of pretty-boy/jerk/model Joey Donner, tricking him into thinking that *he* will get to take Bianca out if he pays someone to take out Kat. Now, in order for Cameron to date Bianca, he has to find someone to date Kat. But Kat and Bianca's father alters his house rule: now, Bianca can date. And neither is her "shrew" sister, Katarina, a senior who loves indie rock and feminist prose and hates conformity. During his tour is when Cameron first sees Bianca Stratford, a beautiful sophomore with one problem: she isn't allowed to date. He is then shown around the school by Michael, who will become his best friend. It can be a little predictable at times, but 10 Things I Hate About You has enough poignant moments, humor, and great acting to make it a memorable and very enjoyable romantic comedy.Adapted from William Shakespeare's play "The Taming of the Shrew," 10 Things I Hate About You starts off with Cameron, new student at Padua High, sitting in the office of the quirky guidance counselor Ms. Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles are both fantastic in the roles that elevated them to stardom, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is good as well despite being overshadowed a little by Ledger and Stiles. The lack of Shakespearean dialogue is a welcome touch, as it makes the movie far more comprehensible and charming than other modernized Shakespeare adaptations (coughROMEO+JULIETcough). ![]() The story is based off of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, but with completely modernized dialogue. ![]() Cameron decides to pay the equally cold Patrick (Heath Ledger) to ask Kat out so that Cameron can in turn date Bianca. However, Bianca's father won't let her date anybody until her beautiful but bitter older sister Kat (Julia Stiles) has a boyfriend as well. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Cameron, a new student at Padua high school who falls for sophomore Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik). 10 Things I Hate About You is the rare movie that successfully modernizes Shakespeare, and despite feeling a little predictable it's still an above-average romantic comedy.
